Agricultural Incentives

Mauritius was once known for its agricultural sector. But this has evolved into a multi agro products which is mostly oriented towards exportation. Today the agricultural sector is divided into several sub sectors. The vision of the government is to attain 50% of vegetables and fruits produced as per bio norms by 2020. In order to encourage bio-farming, various incentives and facilities are being provided to potential agri-entrepreneurs complying with specific guidelines.


Scheme for the Agricultural Sector

The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries assist in the financing of projects in the following sectors:

  • Sugar cane plantation, fine derocking and irrigation
  • Onion or potato plantation
  • Vegetable, Fruit and flower - cultivation, fine derocking, irrigation
  • Biotechnology - hydroponics, tissue culture etc
  • Off-lagoon fishing - purchase of fishing vessel and engine/s
  • Warehousing of agricultural produce - construction of shed/store
  • Production of agricultural seedlings

Who are eligible for the scheme?

  • Planters/farmers registered with AREU, SPWF, SIFB, FSC
  • Operators registered with the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security
  • Operators registered with the Ministry of Fisheries
  • Other operators in the agri-business, fishing and seafood hub sector holding valid licences
  • Other projects recommended by AREU

Maximum Loan Amount

80% of project cost up to a top limit of Rs 1.0 M.


Repayment Period

Up to 7 years, comprising a moratorium of up to 2 years
